Company History

Penobscot Frozen Foods was formed in 1952 in Belfast Maine, by Frederic D. Starrett and Albert Johnson. In its early years, Penobscot Frozen Foods played several roles within the community which included retail meat sales, poultry freezing and processing and the production of frozen baked stuffed potatoes. Eventually Penobscot Frozen Foods divested itself of the frozen food lockers and the meat processing to concentrate on the production of frozen potato products to include baked stuffed potatoes, potato wedges and mashed potatoes. Under the direction of Frederic Starrett and his two sons, who took over the business in the mid 80’s, Penobscot Frozen Foods became a leader in the frozen processed potato industry supplying quality frozen Maine potato products to customers throughout the U.S. and Canada. In April of 2004 Penobscot McCrum, LLC acquired the assets of Penobscot Frozen Foods to continue in the tradition of a Maine based, value added potato processing facility.
